Does anyone know whether there were instances of the wives and families of serving soldiers (who were formerly miners) being evicted from their homes by the mine owners between 1916 and 1918 in the Durham coalfields?

My grandmother moved from Stanley back to her parents home in County Tyrone while her husband was at the Western Front. Given that he had been told she could continue to live in Stanley rent-free until his return, I can't find any other reason for her move other than the mine owner changed his mind once it became obvious that the war was going to be a long one. Perhaps he needed the accommodation for a working miners' family?

Can anyone help shed light on this theory please?
