First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who has responded. If I didn't know before, I can honestly say that the members here are so friendly and warm that I haven't lit my wood-burning fire as I feel so warm.

To cut a long story short, after numerous visits and hours spent undergoing tests and scans, it was determined that there was little to choose between the ability [or inability] to hear betweenmy left and right ear. Funding had became available in early 2012 for double Cochlear Implants for S.S.C's and a monitoring program was to be set up to review the results over a 2 year period.

Subject to a pre- op Physical, Blood Work and a ECG [to determine that I'll likely be around to complete the monitoring process], I am scheduled for surgery on 22 January 2013.

Rather than the double, it looks like a single - left ear only - as while the funding has been made available, the double implant has not yet been approved in Canada. So, as I have some limited natural hearing ability in my left ear, this is what the specialist wants to preserve and see how I get on with it. That to me makes sense.

So I promise to update you after 22 January 2013.

The thought of being able to hear again must seem like some sort of miracle - Im happy for you, it couldn't happen to a nicer person.

Im looking forward to 30 Jan 2013 when the op is over and you can tell us a job well done!
