Hello, I am trying to trace some members of the family tree who have disappeared from all the searches I have been doing (although it may be due to me having to use free sites due to massive lack of money-I have none).
First up, I have been searching for my great grandad Alfred Bateman's military records. We know he signed up in 1913 in London (he was Sussex born). He fought in the mesmopolitan war.
I am also looking for Frank Ainger, born 1885 in West Sussex. Frank Kewell born 1884.
Henry and Hannah Kewell. Hannah Kewell was living in Bosham when her grandson Harry died in the Battle of the Somme.
We also had a Cecil Kewell (not 100% sure where he came from, but we called him Uncle Cecil and his wife Aunty Mary-both now sadly dead). Would love to know more about him but we don't even have a birth date as my dad is unsure.
Anyway, Any help on any of these would be fantastic
Thankyou

Hello GB,
Welcome to the BG forum.
At the moment Ancestry are offering free look-ups for their military records, but I think they're WWI records as opposed to people who signed up before the beginning of the war. Worth a look though.
What proof do you have that the birth years for Frank Ainger and Frank Kewell are correct? e.g. do you know when they died and therefore their age at death, or do you have a marriage certificate with their (alleged!) age on it. I know that there are gaps on FreeBMD (the free online version of the GRO Index, but there's nothing for 1883-1887 inclusive for either of them. (Even on a subscription version of the Index.)
Nothing suitable on the 1891 census for either of them, the nearest being a Frank Kewell born 1890 living in Appledram with parents Henry and Annie.
Until 18 November you can view the 1911 census transcripts for free on Findmypast. For Hannah Kewell, you'll want the one in Westbourne registration district.
There's three possible Cecil Kewells born between 1891 and 1911 in Sussex. (Plus one born in Kingston registration district in 1912.) Do you know when yours died, as that will give us an age at death, and hopefully enable us to pick the correct one.
(Sorry, I seem to be asking more questions than you. )
Pam

Jessie and Harry Kewell, Cecil's parents were living with his mother Louisa and two sisters in Appledrum in 1911 so that could be a possible tie in to the Frank Kewell who Pam found living there with his parents in 1891 census.
