    Default Where to find Quaker records in Cornwall?

    I have relatives who lived in Perranwharf, Cornwall (John Bache - born about 1777 in Kidderminster; father William Bache of Blakedown; mother - Elizabeth). He and his wife, Ann Stark, married in Perranwharf in 1813. They were married as Quakers, as evidenced by a copy of their marriage certificate which I have.

    I suspect that John Bache's parents were the same William Bache and Elizabeth Guest that were recorded as married in Churchill records (I haven't seen a copy of their records there; they are listed on a 'Bache Family Tree' website).

    I am trying to ascertain when John Bache may have moved to Perranwharf. I believe that his cousin/brother, Joseph Bache, may have moved there with him, but Joseph didn't marry as a Quaker, so I'm guessing that he didn't convert. John and Joseph (and a Robert Fox, Quaker) went into business together.

    I am able to trace John Bache on censuses from 1841 onwards, but of course these don't indicate when he might have moved to the Cornwall area. I am under the impression that the Quaker meetings kept records of members and meetings. Perhaps these might disclose when John Bache first showed up as a Quaker in Cornwall. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can access these records? I live in USA, so can't really go about England at this time . . . Sometimes 'Bache' will be recorded as 'Backe', or 'Bach'. Thanks!

    Hi meloralee.

    You might want to try the non-conformist registers at
    https://www.
    bmdregisters.co.uk/
    (link broken across two lines per forum rules to avoid live link)

    This site supports wildcards and will return a list of records, which by itself may help. If not, you can purchase views... but do them one at a time in case multiple items are on the same page. I lucked into getting most of the records for my Quaker lot in Worcestershire with only a few page purchases.

    You can also look at the TNA (UK National Archives) site to see if there are any clues there.

    Unfortunately, the currency exchange rates from GBP to USD are not favorable. I'm in Alabama (Roll Tide ) and I have to really watch my spending habits when researching across the pond.

    Happy hunting.

    The Cornwall Record Office also holds a great deal of material, most of it catalogued under 'SF' (Society of Friends):

    https://
    crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb= Catalog&dsqCmd=show.tcl&dsqSearch=%28RefNo==%22SF% 22%29

    To pick up things elsewhere in their collection, try a search for 'Quaker' in the AnyText field of their search form at

    Hi,

    Thanks for the advice. I will follow-up.

    Re cost of records (FMP, etc.), you might try your local LDS Family History Center:

    https:
    //familysearch.org/locations/centerlocator

    They usually have FMP, as well as Ancestor.com, and British Newspaper archives search, among lots of other resources. All are free to patrons.
