My gg grandfather Alfred Norris (born between 1825-1829) came to U.S. in 1832 (per census), along with his brothers: James (born Nov. 1813), and Henry (born between 1829-1831). Although the 1850 Edgar Illinois census states the boys were born in Hertfordshire, I have no idea where in Hertfordshire. Living next door to them on that census was Joseph Norris (born c. 1789) and his wife Mary. I have found a passenger list for 1832 on the ship Margaret Scott with some simalarity, except the father's name is William.
Need help finding them in records prior to 1832, any ideas?
Thank you for your time.

And this baptism
Joseph Norris
baptism 6 Sep 1789
Northchurch Hertford
There are two entries for Joseph. The other has only a mother Ann named and the christening place as Berkhampstead, St Mary. The date is the same.
I can't see a Henry or James born to a mother Mary, with or without a father William, as yet.
There is a big gap between the births of James 1813 and Alfred 1825 - 1829 (or 1822 as per familysearch.org)

More baptisms to a William and Mary Norris(s) which could fill the gap between 1813 and 1822.
Jane born 20 Jan 1812 Berkhampstead St Mary Northchurch
Henry born 9 Dec 1813 bpt 13 Feb 1814 Northchurch
James Dunton Norris born 5 June 1818 bpt 15 Dec 1822 Northchurch
Eliza baptised 12 July 1818 St John and All Saints Hertford. This is only a baptism date so could have been born anytime between 1813 and 1818.
Thomas born 12 July 1820 bpt 5 Nov 1820 Independent Great Berkhampstead
Alfred born 15 Nov 1822 bpt 15 Dec 1822 Northchurch
Charles born 7 Aug 1824 bpt 15 Sept 1824 Northchurch
Simeon born 17 Feb 1827 bpt 25 March 1827 Northchurch
These birth dates/baptism dates don't match those you give for the US census.
But why if this is your couple did William become a Joseph in US?

Thought I would see what had happened to the other children of William and Mary. Why would some of them not be with their parents? Simeon would only have been 14/15 years old.
There's a Simeon Norris in 1861 born Northchurch
RG9 piece 1013 folio 16 page 26
And living in Luton Bedfordshire in 1851 HO107/1757/724/5
Simon Norris 24 born North Crawley Hertfordshire
Louisa Norris 19
Emmelia Norris 2
Fredrick Norris 11 months
Martha Renoles 51

Maybe you can forget all the previous information as having anything to do with your lot in the US in 1832 because this could be them in 1841 still in Northchurch and no William senior.
1841 HO107 piece 440, book 5 folio 17, page 5
Mary 50
William 25 shoemaker
Lydia 25
James 20
Charles 15
Simeon 10
David 1
All born in county. Lydia may be William's wife and David possibly their son but no relationships given in 1841 census. Also the ages have been rounded down to the nearest 5 as required for this census.

Regarding my Norris line
Thank you for the replies, Christanel. I am pretty sure my Norris family left England in 1832 (according to 1900 U.S. census). They were in Richland, Ohio in 1842 where James' daughter was born, then Illinois about 1848.
I guess I need to look at parish records for James, Alfred and Henry. Here are the naming patterns if it means anything:
James
first daughter: Eliza
first son: Joseph
second son: John
Alfred
first son: William Henry
first daughter: Sarilda

It is best to keep all information on a specific topic together, rather than starting a new thread. I have added the above post to the original thread about the Norris family.
