Annie Elizabeth was my father's half sister (20 years older than him). I doubt if he ever knew of her existance.

It does look as if he switched his forenames around.
There are two articles on PapersPast relating to a Burrows Frank DYSON. The gist of these articles...

Auckland Star, Volume LVIII, Issue 51, 2 March 1927, Page 9
BABY SUFFOCATED
An inquest was held over the death of a child of Mr Burrows Dyson and Edith Alice that sadly suffocated from a cot pillow.

FATAL EXPERIMENT
This is a report on the death of Burrows Frank DYSON who was struck by flying metal. He was the district manager for J. J. Niven and Co. and the flying metal that killed him came from a bursting oil cylinder. The deceased was conducting an experiment into a better type of burner.

Checking the New Zealand BDM, there are two deaths listed for Burrows Frank DYSON in 1927. One was for a 4 month old baby and the other was for an adult aged 38 (born abt 1889.) There is also a marrage on there Burrows and Edith.

If Herbert Richard also swapped his names around, perhaps this is him, dying of appendicitis on 5 August 1915, while serving in Egypt with the New Zealand Medical Corps:

His next of kin is given as Wm. Frank Dyson (father), Okahukura, near Taumarunui, New Zealand.

According to the NZ BDMs database an Annie Elizabeth Dyson, aged 67, died in 1931; this would make her born about 1864, which would be about the right age for your missing Annie. I can't find an obvious death for William Frank Dyson in the same database. Perhaps there's a connection between his absence and this little notice in the 'Personal' column of the Auckland Star, 21 February 1920:
'W.F. DYSON, Okahukura, - Forward Lease Wife's Land, Okahukura. Anyone knowing Dyson's address please communicate with N. McLeod, Pukekohe.'

The Evening Post [published in Wellington] of 4 September 1931 has this death announcement:
'DYSON - On 4th September, 1931, at her daughter's residence, 176, Melbourne road, Island Bay, dearly beloved mother of Ellen M'Gill and the late Burrows Dyson.'
(the mother's forenames aren't given).
So Ellen is presumably the Ellen Dyson who married Peter Craigie McGill in 1919 (NZ BDMs).
Edit: her middle name 'Florence' reappears on her death registration: Ellen Florence McGill, born 19 June 1898, died 1977.

There are other reports regarding the death of Burrows Frank DYSON on TROVE. There are some additional details compared to the previous publication and they also mention his wife and children, so here is a transcription...

The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1956) Saturday 3 September 1927
KILLED BY FLYING METAL.
WELLINGTON (NZ), Friday -- Mr. Burrows Dyson, manager of Messrs. Nivens engineering words at Christchurch, was killed by a piece of flying metal from a bursting cylinder. Dyson's wife who was unaware of the accident, arrived at the works with two young children to see her husband. She found the gates closed and the flags at half-mast.

Singleton Argus (NSW : 1880 - 1954) Tuesday 6 September 1927
CALLED TO SEE HUSBAND
BUT HE WAS KILLED,
Just after the general manager of .Niven and Company's engineering shops at Wellington (New Zealand) had been killed, his wife, unaware of the tragedy, and accompanied by her two young children, called at the works to see her husband. She found the gates closed, and the flag flying at half mast. When told that her husband was dead she could hardly believe her senses, and was stricken with grief. Mr Burrows F. Dyson, the victim of the accident, was killed by being struck with a piece of flying metal from a bursting cylinder. The chlidren had often visited their father, and one of them clamored to see "daddy," and wanted to go into the works. Repeatedly the child asked to "see daddy," and although too young to understand the tragedy cried bitterly when she had to return home with friends without seeing him.

Edit: For completeness, I should mention that there are a couple of similar reports on his death published in other newspapers on Trove. I also just spotted an even longer report on PapersPast, published in the Evening Post, Volume CIV, Issue 56, 3 September 1927. You definitely want to read that one.

A couple of snippets from the newspapers. It seems he was ill for just over two weeks before dying, so not exactly quick.

Here is Richard Herbert Dyson's war grave, from the New Zealand War Graves Project:

nzwargraves.org.nz/casualties/richard-herbert-dyson-9510
Online cemetery records turn up some of family members. The burial of Annie Elizabeth Dyson (described as married) at Karori cemetery and cremation of Ellen Florence McGill (1977) and Peter Craigie McGill (1983) at Karori crematorium can be found here:
https://www.
wellington.govt.nz/services/cemeteries/search/search.php
Burials of Burrows Frank Dyson senior and his baby son (both in 1927), and Edith Alice Dyson (in 1950, aged 57), at Sydenham cemetery can be found here:
https://
librarydata.christchurch.org.nz/Cemeteries/
But William Frank Dyson is still unaccounted for.

Have been looking for a passenger list for the family, either travelling to NZ together or separately but nothing has stood out yet. I'll keep looking but perhaps our "down under" forum members can find a passenger list with the DYSONS listed.
There is this - but it is too vague.
Mrs DYSON, housewife
Ellen Dyson, child
Departed on 25 May 1911 from London to Wellington, New Zealand on board the CORINTHIC.
