My reply to your thread about the Crown is also relevant here. There is a photograph of the Bird in Hand here: https://www.

Bessina Woodall's death was registered in March qtr 1973 in Wells, Somerset volume 7c page 1553. Her date of birth was given on the death registration as 9 September 1895, so she was presumably the Bessina Rossiter whose birth was registered in Newport, Monmouthshire in December qtr 1895, volume 11a page 239.

Her marriage was also being elusive when I searched yesterday. So, I wondered if she had married twice.
Marriage Jun 1916 Axbridge 5C 968
ROSSITER, Bessie
HALE, Richard
Marriage Dec 1930 Bridgwater 5C 801
HALE, Besina
WOODALL, Andrew P
BTW: there is also this death in the Wells district...
Death Sep 1952 Wells 7C 197
WOODALL, Andrew P
Age: 52
There is also a death for a Richard HALE on 13 Nov 1916, killed in action in the war. I checked the CWGC but there is no next of kin information for him. Anyway, a possibility but need certs to be sure - unless Pat knows more of course.

Well done Olliecat - I was about to follow the same reasoning. I don't think she had any children. There are several children brought up by FreeBMD with the surname Hale and mother's surname Rossiter, but they are all in Liverpool and there was another Hale-Rossiter marriage in Liverpool. This of course would be explained if WW1 widowed her the same year she was married.
