Default CARNEY, William - in the East India Company

I’m attempting to trace a possible relative.

William Carney, of Shinrone, King’s County, Ireland (same home as my Carney ancestors in the same timeframe) appears as a Private in the East India Company’s “Warley Barracks” in Little Warley, Essex. In the 1851 Census, age about 20.

That is, literally, all I know about him.

Are the East India Company records for an individual available for purchase somewhere? I’d like to find out his parent’s names, if possible, and since he served in the Br. East India Company what he did while in that service. And possible later in life records such as pension, etc.

FindMyPast.co.uk has an entry for someone with the same name but no birthplace or birth year, so I'm reluctant to pay the 6.95 for the records simply based on name.

Thank you for any insight you can provide,

    Bill Carney

Hi Bill - welcome to Brit-Gen,

I wonder if this book would be of help - at least to give you background information.
