Looking at the 1911 census it seems clear that the wife is a second wife, and only the last named two children are hers.

This would appear to be the family in 1901 with the first wife still alive

Looks like his two wives might have been related

George Henry EVANS m Amelia QUAIL
    Dec qtr 1884 Leicester
    Vol 7a p 530

However, there does not immediately appear to be a marriage to Margaret Harris QUAIL. If they were sisters it might well be that such a marriage was prohibited by law. I am never totally sure about the forbidden degrees of relationships, but seem to remember that you couldn't marry your deceased wife's sister (though it did happen!)

You obviously need to buy some certificates to sort it out

Amelia QUAIL birth registered Leicester Jun qtr 1865 7a/172
Margaret Harris QUAIL, birth registered Leicester Mar qtr 1879 7a/308

    Default leonard Roland Evans

    Hi Sue

Sorry I should have made it clear that I have the information re Leonard's birth & the two families of George Henry Evans.
The 2 wives were sisters. I couldn't find a marriage for George & Margaret on bmd, but did find a marriage in St Patrick's Church records for 26 July 1908.
I believe that George & Margaret had 4 children Lilian Rosa 1906, Leonard 1908, Norah Emma 1912, Jean Mary 1919.
Clair Beatrix M Quail was born in 1895, the daughter of Margaret Quail. I sort of assumed that she was the daughter of George, but of course Amelia was still alive then.
I haven't managed to pin down Leonard's siblings after 1911 either.

    Amelia died in 1902, George in 1948 ( I think!) & Margaret in 1960.

I haven't sent for certificates of any sort. Although george was the brother of my great grandmother Harriet Elisabeth Evans who married Thomas Winterton, I really don't want to go to the expense.
It would be good though to get a 'handle' on Leonard & his siblings.

    Thanks for all your searching

    Thanks Sue

Every now & then I revisit my 'difficult' searches and sometimes something new does pop up so I guess I'll keep a weather eye open.
Be good to know what happened to them all! Of course Evans isn't the easiest name to follow up on. there are so many of them.
