Default I need to know meaning of the word 'chaltels'

Hello I have received a descendants Will it is 3 very long pages of beautiful tiny writing. I am re typing it for my records and for my family to read. My descendant was a furniture dealer and estate agent and died in 1892

I would like to know what the word ' chaltels' means? this is the sentence:

"I bequeath all my household furniture, plate, linen, china goods, chaltels and other household effects (other than stock in trade)"
I have tried to look the word up on the internet and it keeps referring to chalets. any suggestions?

    Thankyou

The word is a spelling mistake. It's 'chattels' meaning possessions.

    Hello Aussie Shep,

I think the word should be "chattels". It's an Old English word meaning "property, goods".

It's an old word used more so in the legal profession.

That word looks French to me, I do know Chateu ( not sure on the spelling for that ) which I know to me house or home, it could be a word for chacaling (again spelling) ie to put someone in irons. But that's a guess, if you know nationality, you could get a translation via Google or another search engine.

It is indeed "Chattels" and is a word that is commonly used in wills to mean property, usually movable belongings that have not been specifically named.
