Please can the whizz kids with the census pick up a family of silversmiths for me? I want the occupation information to add to the research I've done on an antique napkin ring I'm giving as a christening present next Sunday. The makers were E J Trevitt and Sons of Birmingham. Father Enoch James, and sons Charles James and Alfred Wallace aged 42, 16 and 11 in 1881 when they were living at 81 Spencer St, Birmingham. Alfred was born in the USA according to 1881 & 1911 but the father and the eldest son were both born in B'ham. The business premises in 1891 period moved from 34 Spencer St to 29 Augusta St but this seems to be just along the road or around a corner. I've tried an address check for both addresses in 1891 without success. By 1911 Enoch had retired to Sutton Coldfield and the sons were in the Solihull district. All call themselves jewellers in 1911 (retired, manufacturing, and ditto). Any help to find what name they are under would be appreciated, please. pwholt

Thank you to olliecat, Kerrywood and Mikejee. You have all added very much to what I wanted to know. Using FMP and census reference info, I have been able to view the households Olliecat found, but I still can't get it to come up when I use just the name and county. There must be a glitch somewhere. Probate information and directory information adds just that bit more, so thanks once again. pwholt

Hi,
Enoch James Trevitt c 14 May 1838 B'ham was the son of John Trevitt b 1817 B'ham who mrd Amelia Beavon. John was the son of Henry Trevitt b Nantwich 1787 and Catharine Barnett b 1786 my ggg grd parents.
Henry and his son John emigrated to the USA and you can find them in the 1850 US census in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. I have loads of information on them so let me know what more specifically you want.
Regards
Silverdigger.

Silverstone,
I just found this thread about Trevitt genealogy. John Trevitt was my gg grandfather, descended from his son Henry. I would love to learn as much as I can about their life in England before emigration to Pennsylvania, and then to Iowa in about 1852. I am visiting England in September and hoping to connect with extended family of various names in several central England locations. Thanks! Jacarden
