Thanks Kath and Gerry, I'm on the right track now, last night I found William's funeral notice, Courier Mail 29 Oct 1954, naming a lot of the family members, so I know that he's the right one, he was known as William "Smoky" Davis and according to that article and others that I found, was in his younger days a Rugby player and then a boxer, his son Artie Davis was a boxer also, William was quite a colorful character by the looks of it, so there's no shortage of material about him.
    Thanks again.
    Regards.
    Hugh.

    Hi Hugh,
I am the great granddaughter of the person you are searching. My father Jim Davis is the son on Reginald Davis (son of William) are you still interested in finding more information?

Hi Kathie, nice to hear from you, if I have it all correct my friend (your cousin?)is the daughter of your aunt Peggy Simpson (nee Davis).
I haven't gone any further with this tree for quite some time, I did get back a fair way with both sides of her family but maybe you can correct any mistakes I have made.
I'll PM you my email address so that I can send you what I have.
    Regards.
    Hugh.
