    Hi Michelle,

I wondered if I was preaching to the converted, and it certainly sounds like it! Sorry that I couldn't add anything to help.

How interesting having a black sheep like Susan; it seems to be the only way to get an idea of what ancestors looked like is to have had "naughty" ones! although it must have been hard on her children. It's lucky the grandparents were there to help out.

It certainly looks as though the oldest two children had the support of their grandparents, although I'm not so sure about the younger three as the two younger girls Emma and Betsey ended up in the workhouse. I wonder what happened to their father, as I can find no obvious death for him, and no burial at Veryan.

I do like black sheep - whatever their misdemeanour's as it makes research so much more interesting and actually makes you think about the life of the family as a whole.

Thanks everyone for your help and ideas!
