    Default French Ancestry

A colleague at work is interested in researching his French Ancestry. Does anyone have any tips about the best way to go about it?

    Thanks

There are various websites, including geneanet which is based on data input by users and can be fruitful if not totally reliable, and genealogie.com where you can search by name and departement, but you have to pay to see the details. Some departements and regions have data online too, e.g. Bas-Rhin at etat-civil.bas-rhin.fr

Have you tried Family search? Their pilot site has a lot of new stuff on it at https://pilot.familysearch.org/record...ollections&r=1

Some resources take you to scanned images of originals, whereas others are indexes.
