Hope someone can help with advice on finding the entry date into Australia for my great grandfather John Anthony. I have searched all available records held by Aust Archives and State Archives plus our State Library system. Most likely entry port was Brisbane but many records for the period of time I need were lost in the Brisbane floods in the mid 1970s. I know John was in England in the 1861 census in Andover, Hampshire and in Aust by 1871 when he married in Toowoomba, Queensland. Would there be any way of searching UK records without knowing the name of the ship or the exact date between 1861 and 1871. Thanks Jen

Jen, a John Anthony c.1840 left London-arrived Sydney, Australia 29 July 1863. Aged 23 he was a steward, perhaps crewing for passage?

Thanks Waitabit, that could be him, will check it out further. If I could get hold of the ship's record that could have extra info.

Sorry Robelaine, I thought I'd replied to your post. I can't have pressed submit. Anyway thanks for the look up. The tree you found is correct apart from the Wales censuses. Another family member has put the tree on A......y without knowing the details. I have contacted her and she will adjust the errors. Our Anthony family were not in Wales, only Hampshire and later London. Thanks Jen.
