I had already looked at this family but rejected it because someone found him alive on the 1901 census. However this Samuel was a professor and that is quite a jump from insurance agent. Now I am going back to my original though that Samuel is the right one. You have confirmed this with the mother's maiden name. I originally posted this query on Lancashire. Now I am getting pretty excited I have found the right family thanks to your searches. Thank you very much.

Terry- I have Samuel on the 1881 census, married with his mother Sarah. Any chance you could find him on the earlier census, please. He was in Birmingham so must be working his way up to Lancashire.

Jenjen, sorry but i had a few credits left over to do the searches for you. I now have no more credits to do a search.

Maybe someone will be kind enough to look on the 1861 and 1871 census for you.

    Terry

You have been enormous help Terry and thank you for all you have found. I am now convinced that this is my Samuel. He married 3 times. First in Huntingdon then Manchester. His second wife died in childbirth(Samuel) then again very shortly after. He didn't grieve for long but then he had a baby to take care of. Then he died! So many tragic stories in those days. Thanks
