Irene,
Following on from Sheila's suggestion re Joseph:
1901 of Arnold - dob 1822 at Beeston
1891 of Arnold - dob 1823 at Arnold
1871 of Arnold - dob 1824 at Arnold
1861 of Arnold - dob 1823 at Arnold (son Thomas, aged 15, a Framesmith)
1841 of Arnold - dob 1823 at Nottinghamshire (living with a George HAYFIELD, aged 38, Framework Knitter)
Occupation - Framework Knitter and he appears to have married twice. The first marriage could be in 1845 at Basford reg district as an Elizabeth BEARDSLEY appears on the same page. Will look for burials now.

Could someone do a hunt in census for me please, and see if they can location John Copestake b. 1827 Arnold Notts. I have John's death certificate and now know that Thomas Copestake was indeed his father. I'm now trying to work out went John came out to NZ. He married here in 1858 so he should show up in 1841 and maybe 1851 census. I don't have access to census records.

Hi again Irene,
This looks like John in the 1841 census of Arnold:
HO107/855/5, folio 2? (all folio nos almost illegible), page 2
Plaines?
John COOPSTICK (transcribed as COAPSTICK by Ancestry) 14 M.S. Born in county yes
Saml PATON 23 Brickmaker yes
Thomas SUTTON 46 Brickmaker no
Robert do 16 do no
Shown as a separate household in the same house as Joseph PEARFIELD, aged 46 , Brickmaker and Ann PEARFIELD, aged 60, both born in the county.
Can't find him in the 1851 at the moment - will keep looking.

Hi Janet,
Certainly sounds like him. He was 30 when he married here in 1858. If he isn't showing up in 1851 then the chances are that he came out here somewhere where between 1841 and 1851. A very young man!
I will start looking in the ship lists between 1841 and 1851 and see if I can find him. Between us we should find something.
Thanks Janet.

Frank Copestake B 1910, Oxfordshire, D 1998 Derby.
Parents, Henry Copestake, Matilda Thurman (hence my interest)
Spouse Ellen Johnson (I think)
Daughter Elizabeth B Copestake B Derby 1945 (I suspect).
Frank's my father's 1st Cousin.
Thanks, Irene.
