    Thanks for that Lizzy9.
Aware of 'rounding down' of ages in 1841 census, if James & Jacob are older than stated can only assume
they were younger brothers of William. First child Ann becomes Mary A. in 1851 and Ann again in 1861,
the ages seem to fit. Williams father lived to a good age, what chances of finding his family ?

I think this is could be the marriage of William:
    Paul 9 Jun 1849
William Corin (carrier of Newlyn) father Jacob - farmer
    to
Elizabeth Ellen Downing (servant of Paul) father John fisherman
witnesses Thomas R Dowining, John Downing
    from Cornwall opc site

although the date is a bit late and the IGI 1837 is also possible, perhaps there were two Williams?

Many thanks for your postings Lesleys, quite poss. another William and at some point Downing entered
the family name. Confusing he has Jacob as father.

However, one stands out as yours, details:
    1. 8th Apr 1815, Paul, John Downing to Mary Angwin, witnesses: Richard Angwin and Thomas Curnow.

    2. 7th Feb 1815, Paul, John Downing to Mary Richards Kelynack, witnesses: Charles jnr Kelynack and Charles Kelynack
    Bride and groom both signed.
