    Smile DNA Testing

    Hi,

I like many exploring their family history have hit numerous brick walls and ultimately the paper has stopped. I decided to have a DNA test done to see if I matched with anyone of a similar surname, the test I decided to have was a Y37 marker test by a popular on line company which specialises in this and has one of the largest databases.
I waited excitedly for the results but alas I had no exact results, however some close matches with a couple of other names.
I have the surname "Cutler" which over the years has had a number of variations, I am wondering if anyone in the Derbyshire area with the name Cutler would be willing to have a DNA test done to see if we can establish any connections prior to the paper trail running out ?, they would have to be male participants as the Y chromosome is passed father to son.
My closest match to my own is that of "Mills", to date I do not have any marriages in my history to Mills, again if I could find a Male Mills married to a Cutler about 1600 - 1700 that might explain the results.
If anyone is interested or wants further information just drop me line,

    many thanks

    Paul

I had mine done up to 67 markers, the problem is that DNA does'nt recognise surnames, my ancestry goes back to Vikings apparently even though I can trace my English ancestry back 700 years, I have a long list of Scandinavian names that match me and they are so far back as to be meaningless, but for proving a direct line it is very useful, I only set out to prove one line of descent and finished up with half of Norway

    Hi

just out of interest how many of your 67 markers were a perfect match
I have just upgraded mine and are waiting for the results, up to now my closest match is 35 out of 37, I have looked at all the online databases and none seem toe any nearer than that, Do you know of any Derbyshire DNA groups for any ancestors that may have lived in the area for hundreds of years?
