Searching for SMITH family who occupied the pub from around 1904 til 1914. Licensee WILLIAM SMITH b1863, wife ANNIE b1865, daughter HETTY SANDS nee Smith who was wife of GEORGE SANDS (previously married to FLORENCE).
I understand there were 2 families of Smith who were licensees, my one as above and FREDERICK WILLIAM SMITH who took over in 1916.
I have a photo entitled GRANDMA SMITH who is standing outside the pub around this time. Another photo shows GRANDFATHER SMITH with Auntie BETTY, Uncle OLIVER and Aunty OLIVE. The aunts and uncle appear to be in their 20's possibly children of the grandfather.
I'd love to up load it for view but the site won't let me.
One of the SMITH families owned several Notts pubs at the same time- which family and which pubs unknown.
Any help in identifying persons on the photos would be gratefully received and indeed any info on the SIR FRANCIS BURDETT/ SMITH lots.

It seems that you can no longer post photos directly into your posts - you need to place them elsewhere on the web (like photobucket, etc) and then put the url to the location in the box that comes up when you select 'insert photo.
Or you can put the photos in your album on here, you can create an album by going to your profile or 'settings' - right up in the top of the page, in the blue part of the header, far right.
Give a yell if you have trouble.ChristineR

Ahh I discovered the Smiths in the photos were from the second family of Smiths that ran the Sir Francis Burdett. My Annie Smith nee Taylor passed on the license to Frederick Smith in 1913. Now all I need is to acertain if Annie moved to 14 Cumberland St (there is an Annie Smith there in 1914) and I've solved the mystery.

Hi my mum was also descended from this family. Her mother was Emma Louisa Smith, Eliza and Fred's daughter. She married Charles Harold Bottomore. There are quite a few of the Bottomore's still around in Nottingham. I am researching the family tree and busy writing up my mum's recollections of the family which is where I came across the same picture of Eliza that you have. If you want to compare notes please get in touch.
The pub is long gone, demolished off Mount Street to make way for the Maid Marion Way. The Milton's Head is a solicitors and the Jolly Higglers has also been demolished, rebuilt and turned into shop. They were the 3 pubs they kept
