Thanks for the paper cutting - I found one about Ellen's brother Daniel's sad end on Trove, plus their father's death too but hadn't seen this one.
Would love to get hold of the article Peter suggested online - sounds fascinating. Can't seem to find it via the local libraries websites but wil ask them to double check next time I visit in case I'm missing something

Great photos Wayne - still never ceases to amaze me how the early settlers (especially the "respectable" women) coped in those clothes with our climate and none of today's mod cons!!

Thanks, yes it was a different world back then and a lot of people today here wouldn't have been able to do a lot of what they did back then.
