    Default The Gentleman's Magazine

I have a couple of questions about the Gentlemans Magazine.

1.) My ancestor's brief obit appears there. She was the matron of the Louth house of corrections and her husband was the keeper, but she had been retired a long time. She was not a wealthy person. She died in 1811. Any idea why the magazine would have recorded her death (considering she was not someone who seemed wealthy/important)?

2.) Does anyone have a good recommendation for a searchable index for this publication? I've been typing the ancestor's name into Google books and hoping to find an entry, but this is not very effective.

    Thank you!

Try the Internet Archive on archive.org. If they have it, you can download the volume for 1811, and then search it...

If they don't have it, try Google books.

Small warning - the files can be very big...

Check out https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/Louth you will need to scroll down to correctional institutions. Search Google for Louth correctional institutions 1811 quite a few items come up
