    Hi Perisima,

I stumbled on your family by accident as I started searching on the Scotland census and ended up on the English Census. Anyway, I found:

    1841 England Census
Thomas b abt.1799 Scotland, occupation Gardener
    Lydia b.1799 Sheffield

    children:
    William b.1831 Eckington, Sheffield
    Edwin b.1833 " "
    Thomas b.1836 " "
Charles Edward b 1839 Eckington, Sheffield

    Ref details - HO107 piece 195 fol 20 page 10.

1851 England Census is as follows:

Thomas, head, b 1799 Scotland, occupation now Grocer
    Lydia, wife b.1799 Eckington, Sheffield
    Thomas, son, b 1836 " " - Grocer's Assistant
    John,nephew,b 1841 London
    Charles,son, b1839 Eckington, Derbyshire.

    Reference details - HO107 piece 2148 Folio 243 page 25

    Hope this helps

Thank you , I will pass all this on.
I still haven't connected our families together yet, but I need to knock down my own brickwalls first with brothers and sons that may connect with my friend's people... if I give you some details could you bash them down too???

Assuming Thomas married Lydia before the birth of William ie 1831, the way to find it will be via parish records, as too, the childrens births. As for Thomas's birth you will need to find out where in Scotland he was born and consult the church records there (sorry do not know much about Scottish records).

    Perisama,

You could try Scotlandspeople website, you can search the parish records but it's a pay per view site so you'd have to register and buy some credits. It helped me when I searched for some of my Scottish ancestors.

    Good luck,
    Elaine
