    Default Ann Pritchard

A relative has just presented me with a problem for her ancestors:

Marriage 25 Dec 1869 St George Wolverhampton
Henry Baker. 21. Bachelor. Galvaniser Shade?? Dipper. Portman Place. George Baker. Contractors Labourer &
Ann Pritchard(X). 20. Spinster. Bilston St. Thomas Pritchard. Puddler.
    Witnesses: J John Pritchard & Clara Pilinger(X).

Marriage 18 Aug 1872 St John Wolverhampton
Alfred Frost(X). 24. Bachelor. Stamper. Portland Place. Thomas Frost. Verger &
Ann Pritchard(X). 22. SPINSTER. Portland Place. Thomas Pritchard. Puddler.
Witnesses: George Lea & Edward Bannister(X).

BUT my Relative thought Ann had married Henry AFTER Alfred.
There is also another issue. This site:
    https://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org..../familyhistory
has Wolverhampton marriages online. The 1872 one is there but the 1869 isn`t (and it should be).
I can`t find either party on the 1871 census.

Alfred Frost died 28 Mar 1880, age 33, at Lewis Street Wolverhampton.
His widow is at 2 Lewis Street RG11 2795 32 12 (1881 census). Also resident is her Father Thomas Pritchard, Labourer.

Can anyone make sense of this conundrum?

    Thanks

    Mitch

The evidence doesn't seem to support that belief.

This isn't yet another one, is it?

    BAKER William Wolverhampton 6b 829
Hunt Rachel Maria Wolverhampton 6b 829
    Jones Samuel Wolverhampton 6b 829

I would have thought that you should take that up with the web site concerned.

Never as simple as that Peter when relatives ask me for help!

The 1881 census has all the family as Frost.

    The 1891 is interesting:
    RG12 2228 26 8

    Ann BAKER 41 Head Married
    Alfred FROST 18 Son
    Henry FROST 16 Son
    Emma FROST 14 Daughter
    Violet BAKER 2 Daughter
    Minnie BAKER 10months Daughter
    Thomas PRITCHARD 70 Father

    The 1901 has (at RG13 2672 37 24)
Henry BAKER 49 Head Married. Shoe maker. Born Wolverhampton
    Annie BAKER 51 Wife Married
    John T BAKER 27 Son
    Albert BAKER 17 Son
    Violet BAKER 12 Daughter
    Minnie BAKER 10 Daughter
    Scotonia BAKER 7 Daughter.

Based on Violet & Minnie this looks a perfect match.
I now need to find Henry, John T & Albert in 1881 & 1891 to try to find what was going on.
I presume Henry Baker was twice married - and Ann MUST have married (if she did) him AFTER being a FROST. But whose is the 1869 marriage?

    Puzzled!

I`m guessing but I think Henry Baker left Ann pritchard after the birth of Sarah Elizabeth Pritchard in 1870.
In 1872 Ann Remarries to Alfred Frost & they have children. Alfred dies in 1880.
Henry has a new partner & has children John Thomas(1875) & Albert (1883).
About 1889 Henry & Ann get back together and resume living as a married couple and have more children (Violet, Minnie & Scotonia).
Though this seems unlikely it does seem madly logical!

    I therefore need to find:
Henry Baker in 1881 & 1891. Born Wolverhampton 1849 a Galvaniser OR Shoemaker!
Plus his sons John Thomas (born Wolverhampton 1875) in 1881 & 1891
Albert Baker (born Wolverhampton 1884) on the 1891 census.

    Thanks

Henry Baker has turned up on the 1871 census at
    RG10 277 42 19
    Pentonville Prison Islington Middlesex.
Age 22. Married. Galvanisor. Born Wolverhampton.

He must have been back in Wolverhampton to have had children their in 1875.

    Brilliant, thanks for that Christina.

Have now found the article in the Birmingham Daily Post of 20 Jul`1870 & it does look like our man.

Should that be 'before convicted' i.e he had a previous conviction?
