    Default Edith Ella Turnbull

    FreeBMD gives me :-
    Marriages Dec 1884
    Strand 1b 1025
    LEHR Christian Jacob H L
    McGurk James
    Prosser Mary
    Turnbull Edith Ella

Other than purchasing the marriage certificate can anyone suggest how I might determine which of Lehr and McGurk is the husband of Edith.
    thanks

If you have access, try to follow the couples in the censuses to see who married who.

    Hello Daryl,

Can't find Christian in 1891 or 1901, but James McGurk is with Mary and their son, Edward in Lambeth in 1891, so I think it would be correct to assume Christian married Edith. Maybe they emigrated!

Thanks Josie. Eliminating James McGurk as marrying Mary Prosser is (almost) as good as confirming that Christian Lehr married Edith Turnbull -
    Thanks again

Edith Ella Lehr had a son Christian Gawin Paul August Armin Lehr born in Berlin 16 October 1885. (not sure about the transliteration of the name but that is what showed up). The image of the actual record is in a handwriting that I cannot read easily BUT what is clear is Edith Ella Lehr [born] Turnbull. Christian shows up in military records as Armin Lehr (born 16 Oct 1885 parents given as Christian and Edith E Lehr born Turnbull who appear to be in Munich). There appear to be some details about his service but, for the moment, I am thwarted by the handwriting.
As I determine it the younger Christian Lehr is my second cousin twice removed.

Great progress but I cannot find the elder Christian Lehr at all and nothing more on the younger Christian Lehr (did he survive the war?) or Edith Ella Lehr (did she have any more children? Did she return to England?).
    Any ideas?
    thanks

A search on the name Lehr-Turnbull has turned up an intriguing link.
    On the COPAC website

Title: The Swiss advertiser, conducted by C. Lehr-Turnbull.
    Other titles: Swiss advertiser
    Frequency: Completely irregular
    Published: Berne, 1904
    Physical description: cm.32 & 34.
    Notes:
    Vol.1, no.1-24.
    [Incorporated with The English herald].
Other names: Turnbull, C Lehr- [ed]

I cannot find any other reference at all to "C Lehr-Turnbull"

    Any ideas?
    thanks
