Further Cochrane, White, Parker information
My ancestor David Cochrane was born in 1819 in Edinburgh, Scotland but lived mainly in England. He married Jane Allen in 1843 in the country of Kent. Their children were William, Christina, David, Jane, Henerietta, Elizabeth, Edward, Margaret, James, Catherine and Alexander. David was a corporal in the artillary and lived in Canada for a period.
My ancestor Annie White (formerly Chandler) (born in 1854 and died in 1945)was married to a Charles White who was a games keeper in Headley. They had two daughters, Lillian and Isabella. Charles died and Annie married her brother in law John White in 1889 and they lived in Epsom. Annie and John had children Emma, Louisa, Arthur, and William. John may have died in the war. Annie lived on Bramble Walk in Epsom.
Isabella White married Albert Parker and they lived in Epsom.
Any information on these families would be welcom.
Thanks

I cannot find the Cochane family at all. Did they stay in England? If you have no details of parentage, it might be worth sending for David & Janes marriage certifcate.

1871 This looks like the same family, although there are a few name changes
Mother is now called Isabella. So Annie named one of her children after her mother. Would suggest that Maria J was really Maria I on the 1861 census

The information on Charles Chandler's family is great. Thank you so much.
As for the Cochrane family - I believe they did stay in England until sometime after 1861. In the 1871 Scotland census they appear to live in Edinburgh. David Cochrane may have died between 1871 and 1881 as he does not show up on the 1881 Scotland census. I did get the marriage certificate for David Cochrane and Jane Allen and discovered that David's father was also David.
I know that William Cochrane (1846 - 1906) stayed in England as my husband is his descendant. My husband`s family moved to Canada in 1954. I am trying to trace any descendants of William's siblings. I do know that Christina married a Charles Boulding. Jane married Arthur Newell. Heneriatta may have married a Andrew Thomson Mason.
I will continue to search and thank you for the information.

Another possible marriage for William
Marriages Jun 1876
ALLEN Elizabeth Liverpool 8b 105
Briggs John Liverpool 8b 105
Cochrane William Liverpool 8b 105
Hall Ellen Liverpool 8b 105
Found David & family on 1861 census living in Everton Liverpool
David Cochrane 42 Chelsea Pensioner for the R Artuillery b Scotland
Jane Cochrane 40 b Scotland
William Cochrane 14 bQuebee B Subject, Canada
David Cochrane 12 b b Dover Kent
Jane Cochrane 10 b Kingston B Subject, Canada
Heneriatta Cochrane 8 b Quebee B Subject, Canada
Elizabeth Cochrane 7 b Dover Kent
Edward F Cochrane 5 B Woolwich
James Cochrane 2 b Scotland
Catherine Cochrane 2 Mo b Liverpool
If you look at this census, the family must have been in Quebec in 1851
When you look at William on 1901 census, it states he was born in Dover. I think this census is wrong as I have found his birth entry.
Births Dec 1846
Cochrane William Dover Vol 5 page 124
Have also found David & family in 1871 (as you have) and Jane with a few children in 1881. I cannot find David's death in England. Perhaps he died in Scotland??
David on 1841 Scottish census: Could this be your David???
Living Cowan's Close Edinburgh
Margaret Houston 30 F S (Family Servant??)
David Cochrane 50 Dyer
John Cochrane 25 Labourer
David Cochrane 20 Compositor All born Midlothian Scotland
David must have left Scotland to go south and seek his fortune!!
So where was William in 1871-91?

Just found these two on the IGI. They might be worth checking out.
DAVID COCKRANE
Birth: 17 MAR 1816 Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
Father: DAVID COCKRANE
Mother: ISABELLA FISHER
Batch;7306822
DAVID COCHRANE
Christening: 22 JUN 1822 Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland
Father: DAVID COCHRANE
Mother: ALISON CAROLILE
Batch: C116917
These might be red herrings, especially as the mother's name in both these cases did not turn up in any of his children.
Sue
PS Just noticed that on 1871 census it says that David was born in Glasgow. So the 1841 census is probably not correct, or these IGI entries.Last edited by sue2white; 29-07-2009 at 9:13 AM. Reason: PS
