Perhaps start here - and yes I realise it is a South Australian address but have heard excellent reports of the help available... they would be able to point you in the right direction. I understand there are small fees for research.

Have you tried the online bdm indexes at Queensland.

    https://www.justice.qld.gov.au/464.htm

Very early church records would have been lodged in New South Wales, and may appear in their indexes online.

    Chisel, have a look here,QLD.
CEMETERIES OF THE DARLING DOWNS AND BEYOND
Then search for Lutheran, there are about 20 listed Lutheran cemetries.
    You might get lucky.

Been there x2 thanks. The people that I'm after are Albert & Maria HOGE & children emmigrated to Aus from Germany.
A&M & child Paul died Maryborough Cemetery. I also have A&M death certificates.

Maria & 2 children, Margarethe & Paul came by them selves 1892 (found)
Albert is believed to have travelled 2 years before. (not found)
Ida & baby a couple of years after Maria. (not found)

I am after the Church records in the hope that they will give further clues to the faimilys origins. Esp with the name changes that have since occured.

Albert = Kolkow, Maria = Kershkow (doesn't exist) married Kolkau
    Ida = Brandenburg, Margarethe = ?, Paul = ?

Do you have parents' names for Albert? There is a Frederick Hoge who died in Qld in 1918 who was 84 years old and born in Germany......is he Albert's father?
There are a few deaths on the index with parents Frederick and Caroline.

Albert Johann HOGE (1859-1943) parents are father? mother Johanna BARDOCH
Maria MEISNER (1852-1932) parents are Johann MEISNER & Caroline PARDIN.

A cousin believes that they were German Jews however the death certificate has them as Lutherans. Is it unlikely that they would change religons esp as they escaped Europe?

Archives have come back with the following - any further suggestions?

"Unfortunately, we do not seem to have any information on your ancestors.

I have searched through our Queensland database for the names of Hoge, Hage, Hoe (for anything beginning with those first letters such as Hoege and Hoeg) Meisner, Meissner, and Peters. I searched under variations of spelling as it is quite usual for variations to be present, based upon how the name was originally written in the record book. With the exclusion of Peters, there were very few people listed under any of the above names. Unfortunately, none of the Christian names matched with the names of your ancestors.

There were several Lutheran congregations in Maryborough: St Matthews (still in existance), St John's and also a Scandinavian congregation. At this stage, we only have the records for St Matthews. We do not always have all congregation's records until they are donated to us."
