    Default Colonial Nominated?

What did it mean when people where Colonial Nominated?
I had 2 ancestors (father & Son) that came to NZ on the Duke Of Edinburgh in 1874 as single men. I then had the wife son and daughter come to NZ in 1877 on the Cardigan Castle But they came as Single Men Colonial Nominated and Single Women Colonial Nominated. Was there a ballot drawn or were they just picked by someone?

Colonial Nominated Immigrants were nominated (sponsored) by people already living in NZ. That scheme ran from 1870 to early 1891.
(Found that on a google search)

    Red face Colonial Nominated

Are there records showing who nominated the emigrant to New Zealand? My G G Grandmother came to NZ and was Colonial Nominated and I wondered who nominated her.

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums tarah1
A couple of sites that may help
    https://archives.govt.nz/research/guides/migration
    https://nzhistory.govt.nz/files/documents/peopling4.pdf
    Some more general reading/information -
    https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en...orical_Records)
I haven't read them to see if there is specific information on who sponsored individuals.
