    Default Nurse's uniform help

    Folks

Can anyone tell me what nursing school this young lady may have graduated from by her uniform? She was born in Clapham in 1875 and I believe lived in Hampstead or thereabouts until her marriage in around 1908.

    Her photo is here: https://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-...tedresized.jpg

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mary Anne,

There is a publication called Burdett’s Official Nursing Directory which was published 1894-99.

Apparently it contains a list of nurses giving their names, addresses and a very brief résumé - nurses paid to be included.

The Royal College of Nursing holds copies of the 1894-9 volumes.

See the tracing nurses fact sheet here: https://www.rcn.org.uk/development/li...-tracingnurses

Thanks, Doug, I will have a look. Sounds like just what I need - what the doctor ordered, so to speak

Until a nurse got used to it that collar must have been very stiff and uncomfortable.
