can anyone please help? i am trying to trace my father of whom i have never met, and the little info i have is that he was a ships captain in either the navy/merchant navy, which used to dock in swansea,wales, in the early 1970s. is there a way of finding out names of the ships and their captains around that period?

i am trying to trace my father of whom i have never met, and the little info i have is that he was a ships captain in either the navy/merchant navy, which used to dock in swansea,wales, in the early 1970s.

If you know his name, the best way to try and find something about him would be to use either:

'The Navy List' - for Royal Navy officers.

'The Mercantile Navy List' - for Merchant Navy Officers

You may find copies of some of these in a County Record Office, or large reference library.
