Hi All.
I'm trying to trace information on my great great grandfather JOSEPH KORN.
In 1911, I have him at The Stork Hotel at 43 Price Streer. Licen' Victualler with his wife Mary assisting.
I think he died in 1915 at the age of 70 - I'm presuming in the Birkenhead area.
Would anyone have any information on the pub ie was it owned by him or run by a brewery?
Any idea's re burial?
Any info' on his wife?
As someone new to all of this any help would be really appreciated!!
As an aside Joseph was a German national and his wife Mary was Irish.

The hotel, at 41 Price Street, Birkenhead is run by Threllfalls Brewery, and before that by the Birkenhead Brewery (Defunct).

Threlfalls were taken over by Whitbread in 1967 and the livery shown in the pic is a survival - good to see if that is current! Whitbread has gone through many changes itself and may not now be the owner.
If the pub still stands, why not get its number via Directory Enquiries and ring to find out the ownership?

1901 census RG13; Piece: 3471; Folio: 181; Page: 17
8 Clyde Street, Kirkdale, Liverpool
Name transcribed as Karn / Kain
Joseph Karn, head, married, age 56, Licensed Victualler, working at home, born Germany, British Subject, naturalised.
Mary Karn, wife, married, age 50, born Ireland.
Ethel Karn, daughter, single, age 19, born Liverpool
Robert Davies, boarder, single, age 33, Barman, working at home, born Denbighshire
Mary BLACK, Mother in Law, Widow, age 75, born Ireland
Sarah McTavish, single, age 30, domestic Servant, b Liverpool
As both Joseph and boarder Robert Davies "worked at home", it would appear that this address was a pub, but I don't know its name.
Wife mary's maiden name was obviously BLACK.

The pub at Clyde Street was on the corner of Beaumaris Street and was called the Albion in 1909, owned by Threlfalls and managed by Thomas Forsyth. I cannot find a pub in Wilton Street in the City of Liverpool Licensing Report Book, 1909.

Thanks so much for all of your help! It really is appreciated..there are so many stories about this guy "Joseph".
I doubt I'll ever get to the bottom of it all.
I don't know when he came to England...there are tales of various wives / girlfriends, freemasonary, bankruptcy.....life would be boring if it came easy though!!

Do you already have the marriage certificates for Joseph KORN? According to LancashireBMD he married Elizabeth McARDLE in 1865, Elizabeth JENKS in 1882 & Mary CLARK in 1890, all in Liverpool. The 1st marriage was at St Patrick's RC church. There is a possiblility that the church record may give his baptism parish, rather than his address at the time of marriage.
My guess is that he could be related to Charles & Josepha KORN as they are the only other KORN family in Liverpool at that time, (born abt 1819 & 1829 in Germany, according to the 1861 census). They came to England between 1856 (birth of daughter Catherine in Germany) and 1859 (birth of son John Albert in Liverpool). Joseph named his 1st son Charles.
