I hope someone can help me -
I have an 1881 census record for James J Pont age 29 listed as born in what looks like Woutor Essex, married to Sabina age 30 from Blackmore Essex. On the 1891 census Sabina is listed as being born in Blackmoor but James is dead so I only have the one entry to go on.
Does anyone know of such a place or have any suggestions?
Many thanks
Elizabeth

Could it be Moreton - only about 5 miles from Blackmore M could easily be confused for a W, the O is there as is the TO and the N could have been misread as an R. Only the RE being read as a U is a bit difficult, but then who knows?
Best wishes

Only too pleased to help. We used to live in Essex and knew that part of the world quite well (very pretty), so I think I can say that, although there are some strangely named places in Essex, Woutor isn't one of them
Best wishes
