Hi, Im searching the leaney family in Lambeth and wondering if any one had info on George Leaney b 1843 and his children and his father Frederick Leaney born 1811. i know frederick married Mary Harwood and that he's dad was Thomas but i dont know if he had any brothers or sisters and where his father came from.
Also another random question. my nans uncle apparently was a cripple as he was dropped as a baby?!! however im not sure this was true as in the 1901 census he was an errand boy. how could i find the truth. he was John Albert Leaney b 1885 in brixton. Thank you so much for any advice

the first record that I've found on FMP for Frederick LEANEY was on the 1871 Census and that is obviously a son of your Frederick.
RG10/684/79 Page 17
Fair View Place, Lambeth
Name Relation Condition Sex Age Birth Year Occupation Where Born
LEANEY, M Head F 54 1817 Harrington, Sussex occ: Tailor's widow
LEANEY, Frederick Son M 29 1842 Harrington, Sussex occ: Tailor
LEANEY, A Son's Wife F 24 1847 Brixton, Surrey
LEANEY, E Daughter F 25 1846 Kensington, Surrey occ: Dressmaker
LEANEY, M Daughter F 17 1854 Brixton, Surrey occ: Dressmaker
LEANEY, J Son M 12 1859 Brixton, Surrey
LEANEY, A Daughter F 3 1868 Norwood, Surrey
LEANEY, E Daughter F 1 1870 Brixton, Surrey
that's not very helpful especially with the kids - who belongs to who?

1841 Census
I have not found Frederick (yet) but Mary appears to be living with her mother Sarah & 30 year old sister Eliz. in Storrington. All three are listed as Dressmakers.
HO 107/1092/10/21 Page 6
Name Sex Age Birth Year Occupation Where Born
HARWOOD, Sarah F 50 1791 Sussex
HARWOOD, Eliz F 30 1811 Sussex
LINNEY, Mary F 20 1821 Sussex (sic)
wonder where Frederick has disappeared to.

Thank you
Thank you so much for your quick response! Thats brilliant. I didnt have that info on mary from 1841, its quite interesting as they were married in 1840 so i wonder where he was??? tailors didnt really work away did they? Could you do a look up for George Leaney b 1844 and who his children were please? i think he married either a louisa bignall or a Elizabeth Jane Kenney. Thanks again for all your help

I have an identical thing in my tree. The groom was actually staying with his father, whilst his sisters-in-law were living with the bride. I think that maybe there wasn't room. Maybe they only had the one room to sleep in (or even one bed) and it wasn't (isn't) "the done thing" to all share. Cosy maybe but, be honest, would you like to share a bed with your new husband and your sisters?

I cannot help notice the similarity between the surnames and one of those you think he might have married.

problem
in 1881, allowing for mis-transcriptions, there are 3 possibles.
George Leaney b. abt 1845 Hurstpierpoint, Sussex and married to Mary A. born Brighton
George Ed. Lear abt 1843 Storrington, Sussex and married to Elizabeth A. born Steyning.
George S. Leary abt 1845 Brighton, Sussex (no wife listed)
the first one probably married Mary Ann Trigwell.
the second is a farmer of 387 acres, employing 12 men & 2 boys.
