    Anybody done any research on Romany surnames in Suffolk?

    Im sure there are many more than I have found thus far.

    What names are you looking for?

    Smith Gray Heron/Hearn Boss/Boswell etc all can be found there and thats only my own interests....

    It is just a thought really. My very strange great grandfather Edward Thomas Forsdike was a some time Hawker from Suffolk. Several of the suffolk Forsdikes had names like Jeremiah, Noah, Caleb, Isaac etc.

    I may well be massively off kilter here, but the name Forsdyke done mean nothing to me Romanywise.

    I do not pretend to know everything about Rom families not even much. I know what I know about the familes i know abot, and I know precisous little about the rest.

    Having said that, yours sound to me like a family from the Midlands. Not every Hawker fam was travelling folks.

    But the Foss Dyke was a canal in the Linc area supposedly built by the Romans.......

    Thanks for that info. As I said previously, Just a thought, in view of the fact that this guy has lived in Suffolk, Hampshire,London, Lancashire and poss Ireland.
    It was just another avenue to explore.
