Thumbs up Bannister, Banister in ESSEX

    Hi Guys,
    New Member here!
I would like to post my Interests here, they being BANISTER or BANNISTER in Essex specifically Grays and South Essex. My people were mainly Barge Skippers and I would be grateful if anyone could drop a line if they come across any Bannisters on Barges on Census nights!
I have loads of stuff on Grays & Orsett so if anyone wants something looked up let me know.
    Thanks
    Ross

    Thumbs up Essex Bannisters

    Hello again Ross,

Great to actually hear from someone else with a similar interest and my Bannisters do have a conection in Essex too.
Would'nt it be good to flind a link between the families !

Let me know if you have heard of these :

Eleanor Adelaide Bannister born 1880 Grays Essex

Father John Bannister born Doddinghurst and mother Sarah formally Daniells.

John & Sarah married 15 July 1874 in Grays

Their fathers as named on marriage cert were William Bannister & James Matthew Daniells

I have lots of info on Doddinghurst Bannisters and am in the process of also confirming links.
Please let me know how you progress.

    Default Oh Them Bannisters!

    Hi Tullamore,

Yes, I have records of Eleanor Adelaide, Dau. of John and Sarah.
They were living in Bond Street in Grays, in 1881. Just around the corner from my GGGfather.
Although John hails from Doddinghurst, my lot go back to 1805 in Grays.
We have been trying to prove a link with the Doddinghurst lot for years but still can't quite get there!
We have a William (??-1762) & Mary (??-1758), in Doddinhurst, having four children:
    William 1746-??
    Mary 1748 - ?? (Married a Jesse Pepper in 1763)
    Jonathon 1750-???
    John 1754 - 1808

We think the above John moved to Grays and married a Mary Callendar in 1771. They had no surviving children despite trying very hard. Mary died in 1792 and John in 1808. Both in Grays.

The two we are trying to trace are William 1746-?? & Jonathan 1750-??

We can get our lot back to a James Bannister 1771-1804.
We have him marrying in Stanford Le Hope in 1791 but both him and his wife died in 1804 at Stanford. Their son James, according to family tradition, moved to Grays to live with his 'Uncle' (Great Uncle??). This must have been John 1754-1808

Where did James 1771-1804 come from?????
Was he the son of William 1746-?? or Jonathan 1750-??

If you could throw some light on our predicament we would be forever in your debt!
    Cheers

    Post Bannister - Essex

    Hi,

Also fairly new to this site. I have a Bannister in my line, albeit a bit more tenous. My G Grandmother Hannah (born Garrard, married Charles Pearmain, Great Dunmow 1850) was married to William Bannister b 1821 Felsted. They married sometime between 1858 (when her last child was born) and 1871 when they were living in Reading.

    Regards
    Harry
