    Hi,

I want to get a birth certificate and marriage certificate for the following:

    Pietro Agazzi
    Born: est 1852 in Italy

    Polina Agazzi (maiden name unknown)
Born: est 1852 in France (Paris)

They moved to the UK at some point and were living in Plymouth Devon...

    Italian records

Civil records, known as Stato Civile, generally start in Italy at about the time of unification, between about 1860 and 1870, although in some regions they date back as far as 1809. The records are held at the local town hall, not centrally, so it is essential to know where your ancestor was born or the marriage took place. As far as I'm aware there is nothing like FreeBMD or even the GRO indexes.

Baptism and marriage records are much earlier, of course, but again you need to know where the event occurred. There are some on the IGI.

You might get some idea of place of origin using this web site:
https://gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/, type the name in the cognome box. the resultant map shows the present-day distribution; it seems to be quite localised.
