Hi Lindad
"You're doing a sterling job in keeping track of all these Sussex posts! You're help is appreciated hugely!!"
No problem, I enjoy doing it, plus it helps when you have lots of Archives on the computer.
Checked for your Dennis in the 40 odd pages of the 1841 for Willingdon based on Mary Ann who is 10 being born there - but not a single Dennis to be found.
So looked on the 1841 for Folkington, not so many pages this time at 14, and found the following
HO107/ 1115/ Schedule 5/ Page 20 - Folkington (sorry, no street name)
DENNIS Henry, 38, Farmer
......... Charlotte, 23
......... Thomas, 3
......... Mary Ann, 1
All born in the county of Sussex
So Mary Ann was born in Folkington, not Willingdon as stated on the 1851 census
Results 11 to 19 of 19

Folkington 1841 Census
Lindad
Wow - the 1841 for Folkington is rich with the Dennis family as follows:-
HO107/ 1115/ Schedule 3/ Page 16 - Folkington
DENNIS James, 52, Farmer
......... Sarah, 51
......... Barbara, 25
......... James, 14
HO107/ 1115/ Schedule 4/ Page 14 - Folkington
DENNIS John, 27, Ag Lab
........ Fanny, 30
........ William, 1
HO107/ 1115/ Schedule 6/ Page 21 - Folkington
DENNIS Rich?, 55, Ag Lab
......... Ann, 17
......... James, 15
......... Sofier, 13 (Sophia)
HO107/ 1115/ Schedule 5/ Page 19 - Folkington
DENNIS Edward, 58, Ag Lab
......... Amelia, 51
......... James, 14
......... William, 11
......... Sowesor?, 8 (female)
......... Harry, 4
EVERY ONE of the above were born in Sussex - so good possibility they are all related, especially in such a small village.
Hope that helps you build up a bigger picture
Chris

Thanks!
Chris, that's brilliant! Thank you so much. I really appreciate the time you have taken to trawl through all those pages. I know it all takes time.
Yes, there are quite a few members of the Dennis family in that area... and I'm sure the ones that you have found on the 1841 are connected to the branch that we are researching.
I'm still trying to work out Charlotte's maiden name - and that is taking some doing... but at least I'm gradually narrowing down the date of Henry and Charlotte's marriage!
Thanks again!
Linda

Hi Linda,
I saw your query on this forum,my family are Manser's from Sussex and I have a seen a record of a Elizabeth Dennis marrying William Manser, he was married to Elizabeth Hyder first or the other way around, I can not verify this is my tree yet. Have you come across a Elizabeth Dennis marrying a Manser. The date of this marriage is 25 June 1765, I think
Kind regards
Barbara (nee Manser)

Hi Barbara
I'm sorry, I've rather lost the plot with the Dennis'. They belong to a friend's tree rather than my own and I haven't worked on his for a while.
If I come up with anything, I'll let you know...
With best wishes,
Linda
