    Hello Sandra,

I'm unable to answer your query, but have just been reading some of the details of the murder - gruesome!

I see that Edith's hanging at Chester gaol was delayed for 4 months as she was pregnant. Maybe the prison archives would be able to help with what happened to the child.

    Hi Sandra

Have you tried looking at the Wybunbury parish registers as the Morrey/Coomer families had connections with that parish too?

George and Edith were married at Wybunbury:

18th April 1797, married by licence
    George Morrey of Audlem Parish
    Edith Coomer of Wybunbury Parish
Both were able to sign the register.
Witnesses Mary Coomer & Stephen Morrey.

George and Edith had the following children baptised at Audlem:

    4th October 1801
    William Morrey

    2nd October 1803
    James Morrey

    2nd October 1804
Mary Morrey - died young, buried at Audlem on 23rd August 1805

    15th January 1807
    Edith Morrey

    17th January 1810
    George Morrey

There is a baptism record at Wybunbury as follows:

Thomas Morrey, christened 3rd April 1814, father - George Morrey of Audlem Parish, Farmer, mother - Edith. Additional information - 'the late George'.

There were no other children christened at Wybunbury for this couple.

George Morrey was buried at Audlem:

    15th April 1812
George Morrey of Audlem Parish, cause of death - murder
    additional information - of Hankelow

    Hope this helps.

Default Thomas Morrey child of Edith Coomer

Thomas was born 21 Dec 1812 and baptised 3 Apr 1814 - being brought up by the parents of thye murdered George Morrey. Thomas was found guilty of stealing (I think some meat) and was sentenced to 7 Years in Australia (15 Apr 1833, shipped 29 Jan 1834). For bad behaviour 2 years were added to his sentence. Cannot tyrace his movements after his release. Best wishes, Cliff
