Many of my ancestors were living in Wandsworth and other areas of central London in the early 1900's. I would be quite interested to see if there were any announcements entered in the newspaper at the time of various births, deaths and marriages.
I have two questions:
1) Do I have to physically go to a London library to view London local papers?
2) Which newspaper should I look in?
I'm trying to trace other people connected with the family and wondered if anyone else has been mentioned.
Many thanks
Alison

The London Gazette is a good place to start.

The British Library houses the national collection at Colindale. See their web-site which has an online catalogue of holdings.
For the type of l-o-n-g search you envisage, you would have to go in person, unless you have just won the lottery and could afford the microfilm copies.

Many thanks Chriskelly and Geoffers
My problem is I don't live near London and it just is not possible for me to make a trip there at the moment.
Thanks Again
Alison
