I recall my grandmother telling me that my father DOUGLAS TOLLIDAY ( b 1922, Cheshire ,Eng) had a cousin who moved to Martha's Vineyard.
I'm not sure if that would be a first or second cousin, nor the approx date.
Possible surnames would be TOLLIDAY, MARSH, JOHNSON , HARL. Of course those could have been maiden names just to complicate matters !
Any ideas????

Well I'm amazed. I was prepared to look up Tolliday and Harl in the index of Passenger Lists to New York, but not Marsh and Johnson! There were a total of 29 Tollidays listed and, would you believe it, 425 Harls!! When you get some more information as to Christian name and/or approximate date of birth get back to me.

Never ending is it Sue!!!?
I'm off on hols for a couple of weeks , so when I get back I'll try and write up a list of all his cousins to start with.
If I get packed in time, I'll try and do it before I go!
Some of these people may still be alive- should I be making their names public?
What is the protocol???
Should I pm you instead???

Looks like the cousin could be ROBERT PEERS MARSH b 1935 as no-one knows anything about him.
You never know ...he might still be out there aged 72 ?????

Update Sue...
It turned out to be my grandmother's cousin ALFRED GREENLAND WATLING !!!
would never have found THAT name eh Sue???
Just shows how easy it is to set off on a wrong tack.
Where would I find his ship etc ( Liverpool/Manchester to New York??) around 1910 ?

The outward passenger lists held by The National Archives are being made available on the pay-per-view site 'findmypast'
Bearing in mind the date, he should also appear in the Ellis Island web-site

Looks like GREENLAND/GRELAND was his mother's name. Interesting entry on the 1891 census!
