    Default Newcastle Gaol March 30th 1851

    I am looking for records to tell me why Allan Grant was in Newcastle Gaol in Carliole St on the day of the 1851 census. Has anyone any ideas how this information can be obtained.

    The prisoners' ledgers for Carliol Square are held at Tyne & Wear Archives (ref. PR.NC/3/7). They also hold some sessions records, which might give details of any court case.

    Sorry, I don't live in that area so I can't help directly.
