    Hello MM,
I'm sorry but I am a bit confused, there were several St Mary the Virgin churches in Oxford. Some were then in Berkshire but are now in Oxfordshire. Do you know which one you want?
Iffley, Chipping Norton, The University church at Oxford, Ashbury, Datchet, Addington, Drayton Beauchamp, Wallingford etc..... All have Saint Mary's.

Here is a lovely picture of the church of Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas built in 1835/36 at Littlemore but that is (as you say) after the dates you have given.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Littlemore

Though this site says St Mary the Virgin was an ancient parish in Berkshire.

Sorry Mary, I think I will just shut up before I get us all in a muddle. Please can the more experienced forumites help

    Hi Mutley

On the censuses Anne King and Elizabeth King (nee Hopkins) say each time that they come from Littlemore. So I think easy, but then I read this article

    https://www.wolfson.ox.ac.uk/~ben/lmore/howell1.htm

the first sentence says St mary.......

But reading it again it says (the University Church) !!!!.

Im not very knowledgable about Oxford at all. Thanks for the info, I Didnt realise it was actually in Oxford, I had imagined a village. My turf is Suffolk and Essex, but Im on the trail of a King that went astray.

You're right that Littlemore used to be part of the parish of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford (the University Church).

Littlemore church (dating from 1836ish) is dedicated to St Mary & St Nicholas.

    Hello Mary,
Think I have sorted it now. I have the parish records for another St. Mary's but unfortunately not the University Church.

There are some lovely pictures of it on this site:
    https://www.university-church.ox.ac.u...ch/history.htm

Here is a map to it:

And you can buy the parish records from Oxford Family History Society for 17.50. They do send abroad and I have found their service excellent.

St Mary Magdalen, St Mary the Virgin, St Paul, St Peter le Bailey.

    hi Mutley,

Thanks for all your advice and links, You dont happen to have any Kings registered in your church at that time???before I have to buy the records.,

Im not even sure if they are the right people. Its so difficult to find people born before 1837.

If nobody here can help me then I will have to buy them .!!

    thanks a million Mutley

    Hello,
The records I have are for Wallingford.
There are lots of Kings as it is a very common name but none baptised in 1806.
1805 has a James to Thomas and Sarah
1807 has a Mary to Thomas and Sarah
    obviously not yours.

    Sorry, Mutley.

    Hi Mutley

Thanks for looking. Yes King is a common name and unlike say smith or jones, googling a King always brings up hundreds of hits..But Im not related to the bunch at the Palace!!!

    Thanks for your time
