    Default Charles Webb Edinburgh

Im looking for the parents of Charles Webb born between 1780-1790.
He married Mary Sutherland in 1807 and the had 6 children (Jean, Charles,Alexander,William,Robert and Mary)
He resided in Edinburgh and according to the census he lived at 39 Thistle street and his occupation was a shoemaker.

Ive come to a dead end, hopefully some one will have some information.

    Regards Lee

Have you tried Scotlands people, a PPV site?
They have the records, you pay.

    (1) You said "no luck at scotlands people" - what about the marriage record? It's possible Charles's father is named.
    (2) In which census(es) does the family appear? Have you looked at the neighbours for other Webbs. There's always a faint chance of parents living nearby.
Does he show as "not born in Scotland"?
You should be able to fix his birthdate to a narrower range (unless there is wild conflict between censuses).
In 1841, adult ages were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest "0" or "5", e.g. if Charles was reported as "55" he could have been born 1782-1786.
The 1851 census should show his age.

    Default another thought

If all the children survived, and if the family followed the old Scottish naming pattern, Charles Webb's parents would have been Charles Webb and Mary.
There is a birth in London, 1783, to a Charles Webb and Mary.
But a lot of *ifs*. :-)

i have charles and mary's wedding banns and where married in canongate, Edinburgh 1807, but the only other names on there are mary's brother alexander and someone called john mair ?.
charles is not mentioned in the 1841 census, but the rest of the family are, but i cant find no death record either.

    Hi, Lee
Now I'm confused! You say Charles isn't in the 1841 census - so where does he appear? If the 1851, you should have a better idea of his year and place of birth.

charles webb isn't listed on none of the census, except his wife and children.

OK, Lee - so how do you know his age and occupation?
In your first posting, you said "He resided in Edinburgh and according to the census he lived at 39 Thistle street and his occupation was a shoemaker."

sorry typing error, his family lived at 39 thistle street in the 1841 census.
i know he`s a shoemaker by trade as it says so on his wedding banns and he is also mentioned in the Roll of Burgesses and Guild Brethren 1761-1841, (Huison-Ziegler). sorry for any confusion caused.
