    Smile Kennedy and Abel family of Oldham

    Hi folks,
    Can anyone help a newbie? I have a family connection with Oldham. My maternal grandmother, Mary Kennedy, was born in Oldham in 1878 (approx.).
    She had six sisters Agnes,Annie, Nellie,Jeannie,Maggie,and Libby and one brother, John
    Does anyone else out there know this family, can you tell me more?
    I would love to hear from you.

    No relation, but the following entry from the 1881 census transcript appears to match the detail you gave:

    Mary KENNEDY, wf, mar, 33, housekeeper, bn Stapleton, Cumberland

    Agnes KENNEDY, dau, 2, bn Oldham
    Annie KENNEDY, dau, 9mth, bn Oldham

    Thanks Geoffers for your speedy reply. That is the family, I'm sure, except that my mum always insisted her grandfather (John junior) was a ghillie from the lowlands of Scotland.

    Thanks for your help. Yes, this is the family. I was really hoping to find someone else descended from these people, or how to trace the family back even further. Any ideas anyone?

    Hi. hope this is not too late add to this thread.
    My name is Janet Rearden and John Kennedy and Mary Gillespie are my direct great-grandparents. My grandmother was their youngest daughter, Eleanor (Nellie) Kennedy. We have a comprehensive history of this family and the Gillespie's, both on our home computer and on Ancestry.UK.
