    Default Gillen/Gillan/Gillian

The Gillen branch of my family originated in Ireland, place not known. I would be interested to hear from anyone researching this family name. My branch was mainly in Leeds Yorkshire and some in Leicestershire. Regards Maeve

Hi Maeve my grandfather came from Moville, Co Donegal. Quite a few Gillen's there. What is your ancestor name and approx. age from Ireland?

Hi Maeve looking at Griffiths Valuation (the mid 19th century census substitute) the name Gillan appears most in Donegal followed by Antrim Sligo and Monaghan. It is very rare in the southern half of the country see https://www.johngrenham.com/findasurn...surname=Gillan
