Hello,
Trying to identify Joseph LAIGHT's niece Alice MORRIS, b. Shropshire, age 6 on the 1881.
Joseph' wife Ann, nee MORRIS has her father listed as Thomas MORRIS on her marriage certificate.
There is a likely Thomas in Montford with several daughters: Martha, Ann, Mary and Esther. Were any of them Alice's mother?
Regards, Lesley

Ann MORRIS
There is this Ann, father Thomas, in the 1861 census of Montford, Shropshire - any use??
RG9/1866, folio 30, page 5
Schedule 29, Forton
Thomas MORRIS Head Mar 48 Agrl Labourer Montford Salop
Sarah do Wife Mar 46 St Alkmans do
Martha do Daur Un 10 Montford do
Ann do Daur Un 8 do do
Mary do Daur Un 6 do do
Esther do Daur 2 do do
Martha do Mother Wid 78 do do
In the 1871, this Ann is a servant in St Chad, Shropshire (RG10/2176, folio 95, page 4).
I have looked through the GRO Index between the years 1869 and 1876 for the birth registration of an Alice Edith MORRIS and the only one I can find is one registered in Jan-Mar 1870 in Kensington, vol 1a, page 111. Is your gg grandmother the one in Stockport in the 1901 census - if so her birthplace is definitely shown as Whampton, Staffs on the actual census sheet. There is an Alice MORRIS, servant, shown in Codsall, Staffs in the 1891 census, aged 17, born Wolverhampton on RG12/223, folio 166, page 3. Sorry not to have been of more help.
Janet.

Alice MORRIS, age 6, Shropshire
Hello,
Looking for information on the Alice MORRIS, b. 1875c. Shropshire, living with Ann LAIGHT nee MORRIS in 1881.
Ann was a servant in St. Chad, Shrewsbury in 1871.
Ann's sisters, from Montford were Martha, Ann, Mary and Esther.
Is there an Alice with one of these sisters for a mother in the Shrewsbury area records.
Regards,

...Mother Ann MORRIS siblings remained in the Forton, Montford, Shrewsbury area...Eliza MORRIS, William, John, Sarah EDWARDS, Jane, Martha TAYLOR Mary and Esther
