Smile I need a new scanner ..help :-)

Since upgrading to Windows XP , my AcerScanPrism 620S flatbed scanner is no use. Unfortunately my MiraScan and Photo Express are also not usable on my new PC , so the photo albums are not accessible.

What suggestions do you have on buying a scanner ? My main purpose is to send photos to my family and friends as well as putting photos on to my Family Tree Maker files.I have a good printer so I don't want a combo machine:-)

If you do need a new scanner I use a Canon Canoscan Lide 60 that I am very happy with it. It's compact which is an advantage on my desktop and also makes it easy to put in my laptop bag if I'm visiting relatives so that if they have any documents or photographs that they are happy for me to copy I can do it there and then. It's reasonable priced around £50 - £55.

Something you might want to consider is if you want to be able to scan photographic negatives and slides. If you have a few of these to do a number of flat bed scanners have this facility built in, if you have a lot to do a specialist scanner for this purpose would probably be a better bet.

It's also worth taking a look at the software you have and what is supplied with the package. You probably have a package for graphics which as most scanners and software are now twain compliant will be compatible but some packages offer other programs such as document management that can be useful.

    All the best,
    Martyn

    Smile New scanner ...

Because Acer is defunct or rather bought out I contacted BENQ and was told that if I didn't have very good technical know how to pay a professional to retrieve my old software or try to make my scanner compatible with Windows XP.

I decided to go with buying a new scanner ....and waiting till my son in law or grandson visit to attempt the recovery :-)

Thanks for your suggestions and will follow up on them.

Did you try running your scanner software in "compatibility mode" in Windows XP.
