  2. Got sidetracked - but it was fun

One of the names in my TUSON database married a Frances Seymour in 1803. Using the Maximillian Genealogy database I traced her ancestors back to Edward Seymour, the 1st Duke of Somerset - who became the protector of King Edward VI. So following the various members of the Seymour family in that...

  4. King's progress

A query which I hope someone can offer some help, please. When King James I made his progress from Edinburgh to London in 1603, immediately after the death of Good Queen Bess, what route did he take through Yorkshire to reach York? I'm trying to establish whether he might have passed anywhere...

  5. An intriguing Tudor Will .....

I've had this Tudor Will of Robert Globe/Golbe sitting around for some time. If indeed the name is GLOBE then it is the earliest reference to my surname I've hitherto come across. But oh dear, trying to discover who Robert was is another matter. I've tried searching through the online records of...

  8. Need help understanding terms i

Thanks to the University of Cambridge I was able to find my Brownson family in the Earl's colne records, and I did read what they said about the documents but I am not sure I totally understand. 9. Was Robert Howard, b 1537, a Tudor?

There's much controversey about the report of Margaret Douglas, granddaughter of King Henry VII, having a son, Robert Howard, born about Jan. 1537. He supposedly was the son of Lord Thomas Howard, with whom she had a secret affair. About 50% of the Howard family trees that I've visited claim him...

What religion would ancestors of mine have been c1600 in Suffolk, England? Would their parish have been C of E, and did any law of the land prevent them from being anything other?

I have admitted defeat with the last two/three words on this line. It is only the fifth line of the will, and I believe the first few words say: "... defender of the faith and in ??? ???? ? ?????..." I can't even decide whether there are two, three or four words, and if I read each letter...

  16. Meade in Horton, Staffs and Narborough, Leics

This is a family that has interested me for some time. They are not related to me, but I'd be interested if anyone has more information about them. Also they fit quite nicely in the Tudor-Stuart forum, which was looking quite lonely with only two threads. This information is from the Heralds’...

To get this forum underway, I just wanted to post a thank you to our Bo Peep for creating a place where we lovers of Tudor and early Stuart England may post our ruminations. And this is a call out to Vance, who started the ball rolling. Here is the Tudor forum - so we expect lots of posts from...
