  1. Smile Sticky Thread Sticky: Spelling in indexes

I don't know if this is the best place, but thought some observations made today while transcribing births from the local registrar's books might be useful for others who might have problems finding people. 1. The registrar had some idiosyncratic spellings. Like Aurthur and Jimima. That is...

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: My list of 'essentials'

http://www.genuki.org.uk/ Probably the best source of information for the UK and Ireland. If you want to go straight to the country/county, then click on 'United Kingdom and Ireland' in the top left corner. Be aware that this site can be very addictive and lead you to all sorts of places far...

  1. Registration District

I have been searching for a while for any details on the death of Frances Elizabeth NEAL, I knew that she must have passed between 1891 & 1901 from census records but could find no record of death...until the new search engine on the G.R.O web site. 2. Legacy De Luxe

I`ve been doing my Family History for years, but the time has come for new software. The question is - does the Legacy De Luxe CD allow it to be a standalone . I do not want anything that is online.

  4. Where is the best place to build your tree

I have been using FTM (Family Tree Maker) from Ancestry for many years and have finally had enough of it's slow software and constant crashing. I tried MyHertiage today and just couldn't get on with it and then was very annoyed at the fact that it said it was free and then it wasn't when I uploaded...

  5. Family Tree Maker and Ancestry... which first

Hi, I've just ordered my Tesco voucher so I can order FTM Platinum, and I have a monthly sub to Ancestry. I haven't written my tree down properly anywhere yet, so my question is.... should I fill it all in on Ancestry or FTM as I understand you can link the two? Is it easier to transfer Ancestry...
