  1. L.C.C. Epileptic Colony

My ancestor George Gould b. Kensington 1858 has just been found in the 1911 census at the Epson epileptic Colony. It is disappointing that ony his name and age are given in the transcript. I have been unable to find him in the 1901 census as the Colony was built around 1903. Does anyone know if...

  3. Bridge Cottage Claygate

This is listed as the residence on my grandfather's birth certificate. I would like to get more information on this, if possible. Does anyone have any idea where I would look for it? Is it a street or group of houses or just one lonely cottage that may have been torn down ages ago? Any advice...

  4. James Nicholson, Lambeth

Could some kind person with access to the 1851 census please look for James Nicholson in Lambeth? On the 1841 census he is given as age 45 and a coal merchant, with presumably two daughters, Martha and Emma, both given as 15, and all of them born in Surrey. In 1841 they appear directly below...

  5. The Hurst - Norwood?

Does anyone have any idea where The Hurst is? It's probably in the Upper Norwood area somewhere - it's mentioned as a place to picnic in 1852. There was a gravel pit nearby and it seems to be an area of heathland and coppiced woodland. I haven't been able to find it on Streetmap or by googling.

In searching for the surname origin of STOVELL I have noted the links to Stovold, Stoffold, Stovel and Stovall on other websites. In the 1841-1881 British census records the various surname derivations tend to be located mainly around the Surrey, Sussex and Middlesex areas suggesting that many of...
